    Why am I seeing "Purchase" or "Buy" instead of "Play"?

    This issue occurs when Steam is reading outdated licensing cache files, or when your DLL modules are out of date. Steam keeps track of game details locally inside files called appinfo.vdf and packageinfo.vdf. If these cache files conflict with the custom game keys, Steam will show games as "not owned" or display a purchase option.

    Update ManifestDeX Module Files

    First, make sure your core files are up to date. Go to our setup documentation, download the latest version of the core DLL files, and replace them in your main Steam directory.

    Delete Cached appinfo Database

    Close Steam completely. Then, navigate to Steam's appcache directory and delete both appinfo.vdf and packageinfo.vdf.

    Clear Steam Download Cache

    Now open Steam and navigate through the settings to wipe the remaining download registry database:

    1. Click Steam in the top left corner of the client.
    2. Go to Settings and choose Downloads from the left sidebar.
    3. Find the button that says "Clear Cache" (next to Clear Download Cache).
    4. Confirm the prompt. Steam will automatically sign you out and restart.
    Note: This is completely safe and won't delete any of your downloaded games. It only refreshes Steam's internal registry.
